Overseas tribulations

Health Insurance required, aka “the nightmare on Elm Street”.  In the first year of our travels, we will come back to Canada from time to time and continue to be covered by our provincial plan.  We just need to top up for Europe.  I found coverage with Allianz but since I have a few issues, they are covering me only if I promise not to use the coverage.  Ann as a bit of osteoporosis and they excluded the consequences of the osteoporosis from the coverage, which is fair enough however when we ask if a bone break occurs as a result of being hit by a car are we covered? The answer, wait for it, “we will see at the time”.  This is one of the most stupid answer one could give.  So right now we have no idea what we are covered for or why we would pay a premium.  Maybe I should send a cheque with the same caveat, “may be the cheque will clear, will see at the time”.

All this to say that Allianz needs to grow up and be able to explain clearly what you are covered for or not.  I have spent a lifetime in the insurance world and that answer is way up there in the stupid list.

In the end we realized that we will be back in Canada every 3 months or so. So we bought an annual TD Life Travel Plan with a top up.  Straightforward application with no question for Ann and a few questions for me (quite a few) as I am a bit older (just a small bit).

Health Insurance: Resolved for the next 12 months.
